Hi everyone! Recently I bought a product called "FructosAid 88." It's an enzyme supplement containing the digestive enzyme 'xylose isomerase.' Xylose Isomerase is a catalyst that helps speed up the process of converting fructose to glucose in the small intestine. This product works similar to Lactaid. I took one pill before eating, and then tried to eat a pear. On any 'normal' day, I would get very sick from eating a few bites of a pear. This is because the average pear contains about 4.9 grams of glucose and 11.1 grams of fructose. In order for me to digest anything, I need at least the same amount of glucose as fructose (if not, more glucose than fructose). I thought a pear would be a good thing to start with because it has almost twice the amount of fructose than glucose, therefore, if this supplement was going to work for a pear, it would probably work for anything. To my surprise, I am soooo happy to announce that I did not feel any symptoms from eating the pear! When I woke up this morning, I literally cried because I was so happy. My life could not get any better right now. I have no eaten a pear in over four years! I have not tried this supplement with anything else, and I'm not sure if it will work with fructans, monosaccharides, disaccharides, carageenan, etc, but I will be trying these over the next few weeks and will keep everyone updated. I bought the product online from Swanson Health. If you Google the product, you can also order it from Amazon, etc. The product was about $30 for 30 capsules. One capsule is supposed to be good for up to 56 grams of fructose. You can take this supplement every day, or only when you're eating something containing fructose. I plan to only use this supplement when going out to eat, or eating at family and friends houses. Another question I have been getting is 'is this product safe for kids?' I am not sure the answer to this question. I am not a health professional, but I don't see why it would hurt. You do need to be able to swallow the capsule whole so it opens in your small intestine, where the fructose needs to be converted to glucose. I am 20 years old, 5 foot 0 inches, 100 pounds and I had no problems with it. In my opinion, I am on a very strict (white rice, unseasoned meat, and occasionally some other foods) diet and it worked for me, so I would say it would probably work for others. I am not sure if this product will work for everyone or for every food, but for $30, I am willing to try just about anything. I encourage you to e-mail me at [email protected] with any questions (or with your experience using the product), or comment below. I look forward to hearing from some of you and PLEASE don't hesitate to post questions or comments. I love hearing from you all! Happy Holidays & Thank You for your continued support! I want to have my story heard and get the word out about this disease). |

Thanks for sharing your story. My experience has been the same. I am testing new foods every few days. I am also intolerant to gluten & dairy so I'm very interested to find out if this will help me digest these foods also. But I'm nervous because I haven't eaten these foods in over 10 years. But I'm hopeful.

Our daughter suffers from fructose malabsorption. For the last few years, she has much success using "Fructaid". Now, Fructaid is out of stock in Amazon & Walamrt. FYI, start looking where to buy it. I used another product called "Eat Anythig", a blue botle with a white label. Got it on Amazon and stocked up for a couple of months. Her Gastro is also her dad and my husband. He is going to compare the milograms for Eat Anything to Fructaid. Just gotta match up if they are both the same of milograms for each pill, if not then he will tell her how much to take. Good Luck.

Do you still take Fructosaid and, if so, where do you buy it? I haven't been able to find a source in the US. Swanson Health is out of it and I contacted 88HealthProducts and they said the manufacturer in Austria is not selling in the US anymore.

Hi Stephanie! I still take this, but I haven't needed to buy any more recently. I only take this when I go out to eat, which isn't too often. All you need is a supplement with xylose isomerase. Here is a link for one available on amazon.
